The real definition of goth in the present day is someone who’s interested in dark aesthetic, gothic music, dark cinema, and art, gothic fashion, gothic clothing, gothic makeup, gothic architecture, black-and-white horror films, etc.
The word “goth” can be defined in many ways, but the first original meaning actually meant “a member of a Germanic people that overran the Roman Empire in the early centuries of the Christian era” taken from the Merriam-Webster dictionary.
What makes someone a goth?
It makes someone a goth when they’re interested in the strange, surreal and macabre. Goths are dressed in dark clothing, dark makeup, they listen to dark music, watches dark movies and TV shows such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Wolfman, Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Dark Shadows, etc. Goths read horror books like Jane Eyre, Frankenstein, Dracula, Wuthering Heights, The Castle of Otranto, Interview with the Vampire, and more.
Are goths sad people?
Goths aren’t sad people. They just have an appreciation for spooky things like bats, crows, ravens, the night, skeletons…
Are goths satanic?
No, goths aren’t satanic because being a goth has nothing to do with satan. According to Merriam-Webster, goth means “a person who wears mostly black clothing, uses dark dramatic makeup and often has dyed black hair.” Goth and satan are two completely different subjects. Satan is a fallen angel named Lucifer and he was one of God’s prettiest angels, in the present day, he is the devil.
What is goth, really?
To be clear, goth is a subculture and has its own history. It was first known as a type of music genre, gothic rock, that originated from England, first in the 1980s.
